Michael Abba, Assistant Lecturer
Michael retired from Ameren Illinois in 2024 as Director of Business Development. He started in 1990 at Central Illinois Public Service, one of the predecessor companies of Ameren, as an Electric Distribution Engineer. Over his 33+ working career with Ameren he held various engineering, operations, strategy, and leadership positions. These included leadership roles in field engineering and operations, industrial customer relations, business process re-engineering and implementation, and innovation and smart grid.
He supported the field operations implementation of the merger of Central Illinois Public Service Company and Union Electric to form Ameren in 1995 and supported numerous customer and field system and process implementations from 1995-2007. He was responsible for the development of Ameren Illinois’ smart grid, Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI), voltage optimization and smart inverter specification programs from 2009 - 2018. In his final leadership role at Ameren, he led the development and implementation of Ameren Illinois’ electrification and natural gas system expansion programs.
Michael has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (1989) and a Masters of Science in Electric Engineering (1990) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a Masters in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (1994). He is also a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois. He is a proud graduate of Herrin High School.
Michael lives with his wife Kristie and son Nathan in rural Williamson County Illinois.
