Associate in Applied Science in Radiologic Sciences

The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Radiologic Sciences prepares you to become a registered radiologic technologist (medical radiographer). Completing the program gives you the educational foundation you need to sit for the national certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
If you’re specializing in radiation therapy technology, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography, or cardiac-interventional radiography, you’ll earn your A.A.S. degree after successfully completing your third year.
Degree Requirements
The AAS Radiography Program can be earned by fulfilling the requirements for the Associate in Applied Sciences Degree.
- Total Degree Requirements: 67 credit hours
- University Core Curriculum: 15 credit hours
- Other Core Requirements: 4 credit hours
- A.A.S Degree Core Requirements: 48 credit hours
National Registry Prep & Exams
The design and content of our program prepares students for the National registry examination in Radiography, offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
We boast high National Registry exam pass rates, which allow our graduates to seamlessly continue to their chosen specialty of CT/MRI, Radiation Therapy, or Cardiovascular Interventional.
Staying on Track
To move forward in the Radiologic Sciences program, you’ll need to earn a grade of C or better in each of the required RAD courses. This includes: RAD 102, RAD 112, RAD 112L, RAD 122, RAD 202, RAD 212, RAD 222, RAD 232, RAD 232L, RAD 312, RAD 322, RAD 332, RAD 342, RAD 352.These are essential to meeting the program’s academic standards.
If you don’t meet the minimum grade in any of these courses, you won’t be able to continue in the program at that time. However, you will have the option to re-apply for admission during the next application cycle through the program’s online application process.>
Admissions & Deadlines
The RADS program is a fall-only competitive admissions program.
Applications to the radiologic sciences program, including all specializations, will open on September 1, 2025. Applications to the university open on July 1, 2025.
Freshman applications will be accepted from July 15th to November 1st and transfer applications will be accepted from July 15th to February 15th.
To be considered for full admission, students should apply for general admission to SIU Carbondale.
