Associate in Applied Science in Radiologic Sciences
The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Radiologic Sciences prepares students to become registered radiologic technologists through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory experience, and clinical education at affiliated healthcare facilities throughout Illinois and neighboring states. Students gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide high-quality medical imaging services while working with diverse patient populations and advanced imaging technologies.
After completing the associate degree, graduates may begin their careers as radiographers or continue their education in one of SIU's advanced specialty tracks in Computed Tomography/Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CT/MRI), Radiation Therapy, or Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography. These pathways allow students to expand their professional credentials while pursuing a bachelor's degree and preparing for a wide range of careers in medical imaging.

Admissions & Deadlines
The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Radiologic Sciences is a competitive admission program that admits new students once each year for the fall semester.
To be considered for admission, students must first apply for general admission to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Once admitted to the university, students must also submit a separate application to the Radiologic Sciences program.
As part of the Radiologic Sciences application, applicants are required to select one of the program's specialty pathways:
- Computed Tomography/Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CT/MRI)
- Radiation Therapy
- Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography
Selecting a specialty pathway helps the program plan for future enrollment in each specialty. Students are required to choose a pathway during the application process, even if they are unsure whether they will continue into that specialty after completing the Radiography program.
