Financial Assistance

We are excited to announce a set of four-year assistantships for doctoral students. These assistantships will support political science doctoral students who show the greatest promise for scholarly and professional achievement.

Students accepted into the program will be automatically considered for one of the three assistantships:

  • Comparative Politics / International Relations Assistantship
  • Political Communication Assistantship
  • Judicial Decision-Making Assistantship

Each recipient works with a faculty member in their concentration. Duties include assisting with teaching and research, with a focus on developing the student’s research and publications. Each assistantship pays a monthly stipend (nine months) and provides a full tuition waiver for fall and spring semesters, and up to 9 hours in the summer. A recipient who is making academic progress will continue to receive the assistantship for at least four years.

All students admitted to the graduate program are considered for funding. No additional application is required beyond the application for admission. Students who receive an assistantship will also be nominated for university fellowships that provide additional funding. These include the Graduate Dean’s Fellowship, Morris Fellowship, Doctoral Fellowship, Masters Fellowship, Dean’s Fellowship, PROMPT Assistantship, and Dissertation Research Assistantship.

Further information on financial aid is available from the Graduate School: see “Cost and Financial Assistance”.
